A long while ago i become a Maison guitar in my posession. Hardly anything known about this brand and it’s guitars. The most common reaction is about the end of the Maison guitars history, “a corring budget guitar“. Did research on this brand and it’s guitars, and it took me years as there really is hardly anything to find.
But how the spread parts of information i gathered together changed my view on this wonderfull brand!
Maison Guitars where hand-build in a small workshop in Korea. Maison guitars where finished at a very high standard and often contained high quality woods and hardware. Later the Maison compagny was taken over by a major Korean company called “Yoojin” in the early 90’s (about end ’92/early ’93) and they still made a series of Maison guitars afther the company takeover. Yoojin also does not exist as a company anymore. The business model from Maison was to make affordable high quality guitars. As with many guitar compagnies those days this business model didn’t make it for Maison.
A lot of these early hand-build Maisons can be recognized by serial number (year pre ’93) and stratocasters by the authentic and quality Floyd Rose bridge. Think quality and playing experience at least simular as nowadays build best brands.
Maison also build guitars for Columbus and Photogenic. Both very rare guitar brands. Their later Gibson copies were also favored by their owners for the high quality of their guitars. Almost each serious review or feedback given anywhere on the internet, not saying the simple “budget brand“, confirms about this high quality and pleasant playability.
Nowadays Maison guitars are becoming very rare and hard to find, and their values are steadily rising. Just one issue. Most guitarists know nothing about this heavily underrated brand.
